Oct. 7, 2007

Florida State University junior All-America Caroline Westrup carded an even par 72 in the final round and finished as the Seminoles’ scoreboard leader for the eighth time in the last nine events as play in the 2007 Lady Tar Heel Invitational at the Finley Golf Course came to a close. The Seminoles, ranked 28th in the GolfStat/Sagarin Performance Index, finished in 14th place in the team standings.

No. 1 ranked Duke rallied from ninth place after the first round and second place after the second round to defeat Tennessee by two strokes and win the team championship. The Blue Devils were the best team in the field in the second and third rounds after falling behind the team leaders by as many as seven stokes after the first 18 holes of the event. Duke’s Amanda Blumenhurst was under par in all three rounds and finished with a seven-under par score of 209 to claim the individual championship.

Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) carded an even par 72 in the final round and finished in a tie for 28th place with a three round total of 223. She played her best golf of the event over the final 18 holes after carding rounds of 75 and 76 in rounds one and two. Westrup has been Florida State’s top finisher in both of the Seminoles’ events during the fall of 2007.

Senior Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) enjoyed her second consecutive strong outing as she finished with consecutive rounds of 74 and a 54-hole total of 225. She finished in a tie for 35th place in the individual standings. It marked her second consecutive top-35 finish; she also finished in a tie for 35th place at the fall season opening Cougar Classic.

Senior Whitney Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) also played well in finishing her final two rounds at a total of four-over par. She shot an even par 72 in the second round and closed with a four-over par 76 in the final round. Freshman Macarena Silva (Santiago, Chile) finished in a tie for 71st place in her first collegiate event and sophomore Lacey Agnew (Jonesboro, Ga.) finished in 75th place in the final standings.

The Seminoles will play their third and final tournament of the fall as they travel to play at the University of Alabama/Ann Rhodes Invitational Oct. 26-28.
