Westrup Leads Seminoles In Second Round Of UCF Challenge

SORRENTO, Fla. –
Junior All-American Caroline Westrup shot an even par 72 to move to the front of the Seminoles’ leader board and help the Florida State women’s golf team improve their team standing after two rounds of the UCF Challenge to Benefit The Florida Children’s Hospital at Red Tail Golf Club. Westrup improved her score by three strokes and moved up 22 positions in the individual standings as she helped the Seminoles move into 15th place in the team standings.

Top-ranked Duke vaulted to the top of the team leader board thanks to a second-round score of 282. Trailing fourth-ranked Southern California by a stroke entering the day, a trio of Blue Devils all finished under par to help the defending champions build an eight-shot lead on the remainder of the 18-team field. Duke sophomore Alison Whitaker held onto her lead in the race for medalist honors through 36 holes by shooting a 71 on the 6,301-yard layout.

Florida State improved its team score by 10 strokes as it counted a 72 (Westrup) and a trio of 74’s (Whitney Brummett, Whitney Wright and Macarena Silva). The Seminoles’ team score of 294 was tied for the eighth lowest team score of the second round.

Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) rebounded from a three-over par score of 75 in the first round to lead the Seminoles in the second round. She led the Seminoles and is now in a tie for 36th place with a two-round total of 147. Westrup played her best golf on her second nine holes of the day as she finished with a two-under par score after finishing two over during her first nine holes of the afternoon.

Brummett (Eureka. Mo.) continued to play very consistently as she carded a second straight round of 74. She is in a tie for 42nd place. Wright (Rockingham, N.C.) improved by one stroke after finishing with a 75 in the first round. Silva (Santiago, Chile) showed the team’s best upside with a six-stroke improvement after carding an 80 in the tournament’s first round.

Florida State will close the tournament as they play with Furman and Vanderbilt in the final round on Tuesday.
