Whitehurst Competes in 2016 US Open Men’s Singles Championship

New Haven, Conn.-   After winning the Florida Sectional qualifier in June, Terrance Whitehurst advanced to the US Open National Playoffs Men’s Singles Championship, where he played well but fell in three sets to fourth-seeded Jose Statham of New Zealand 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale University on Saturday.

At the Florida Sectional in Tallahassee earlier this summer, Whitehurst won five matches, three against seeded opponents, to advance to the Singles Championship. Statham, who defeated Whitehurst, will play in the final later today. Terrance’s brother, Terrell, participated in the US Open National Playoffs last season.
