DES MOINES, Iowa (Seminoles.com) – Florida State’s Kim Williams has been named the top women’s field athlete in the South Region for the 2011 outdoor track & field season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Monday.
Williams will represent FSU at the NCAA Championships in both the triple jump and long jump starting Wednesday and concluding Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Williams holds the top-seeded triple jump mark in the field with a wind-aided 46-9 (14.25m) captured in winning the Texas Relays crown. She won ACC titles in both jumping events, including a fourth all-time outdoor league crown in the triple jump.
She was also recently named a Capital One Academic All-District selection and is eligible to receive Academic All-America honors.
“Kim continues to earn more recognition for what has been a remarkable career,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “She is the best triple jumper in NCAA history and has had a terrific final season. We are excited to see her compete this week in Iowa.”
Seminoles.com will be on hand for all the action as Williams begins her quest for a sixth and seventh NCAA title. Her first event is the long jump, starting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
