Women’s Basketball Breaks Into The National Rankings

Dec. 10, 2001

The Florida State women’s basketball team, 8-1 on the season, has been ranked tied for No. 25 in this week’s USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, released late Monday. The Seminoles, who have won their last four straight games by an average of 28.8 points, moved up four spots from No. 29 last week.

The last time a Florida State women’s basketball team was ranked in a regular-season poll was No. 24 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll on January 18, 1993. Florida State was ranked No. 25 in last season’s final poll following a season in which the Seminoles went 19-12, finished 3rd in the Atlantic Coast Conference and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Florida State is enjoying its best start since the 1982-83 season. The Seminoles went 15-1 to open that season and finished with a 24-6 record.

FSU will play at Auburn on Sunday, December 16 at 2 p.m. The Tigers are ranked No. 25 in this week’s Associated Press Poll.
