The 1-0 Florida State women’s basketball team is gearing up for a big week of action as No. 3-ranked Louisiana Tech makes a visit to Tallahassee on Thursday, November 19th at 7 p.m. at the Leon County Civic Center. The contest, which will be FSU’s home-opener and Louisiana Tech’s first game of the season, will also be televised live on Sunshine Network.
The Seminoles are coming off of a 76-67 season-opening victory at the University of Tulsa. Freshman April Traylor led all scorers with 23 points in the contest and was selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday.
The Lady Techsters finished the 1997-98 season 31-4 and as the national runner up to Tennessee. Along the way, Louisiana Tech picked up a sixth straight Sun Belt Conference regular-season title and made its ninth trip to the NCAA Final Four.
Louisiana Tech will be the highest-ranked opponent that has played the Florida State women in Tallahasee since the 1991-92 season when Virginia came in as the nation’s No. 1 team.
The Tribe will host Kent State, Long Beach State and Florida International in the second-annual Tallahassee Democrat Seminole Classic, Nov. 22-23. FSU will face Long Beach State at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, following a 2 p.m tilt between Kent State and FIU. Monday’s action will start with a 6 p.m. consolation game followed by the tournament’s championship game at 8 p.m.
