TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (Seminoles.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced that the Florida State Women’s Basketball team will host Penn State in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge slated for Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
The announced game is the third known matchup for the Seminoles in the 2018-19 season. Florida State will also participate in the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas on Friday, Nov. 23, vs. Eastern Kentucky and on Saturday, Nov. 24, against either West Virginia or Iowa.
The Seminoles have thrived in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge. They join only Duke as holding the ACC’s best record in the conference clash with a 9-2 record. FSU owns a six-game win streak in the challenge, perhaps none more thrilling than last year’s 94-93 victory at Iowa on Nov. 29, 2017.
The ACC owns an 8-0-3 advantage in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, walloping its rival conference last year with a 10-4 record. Overall, the ACC leads the Big Ten with an 81-55 mark.
Penn State leads Florida State 3-1 overall in a series that dates back to Dec. 10, 1982. The Seminoles won the last matchup between the two schools, which was actually part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Dec. 3, 2008. FSU defeated the Lady Lions, 73-60, behind 18 points, five rebounds and four blocks from All-America center Jacinta Monroe.
Penn State finished 16-16 overall last year as well as 6-10 in the Big Ten. However, the Lady Lions had no seniors on the 2017-18 squad.
Florida State will enter the upcoming season joining only Louisville and Notre Dame as the ACC schools whom have won 75 percent or more of their conference games in each of the last four years. FSU has also won 25+ games in each of the last four years, finishing 26-7 last season and ending the year ranked 11th in the final Associated Press Poll.
The rest of the 2018-19 non-conference schedule will be announced in July, while the entire ACC schedule is expected to be unveiled in September.
