After weeks of conditioning and individual workouts, the Florida State women’s basketball team will begin practice for the 2004-05 season Saturday, October 16th at 1 p.m. at the Basketball Training Center. This season, the Seminoles return seven players who saw action in 2003-04, two players who were redshirted last season but practiced with the team, and two newcomers who are expected to make immediate contributions.
Junior veteran LaQuinta Neely, who is returning from a torn ACL, said:
“Practice does start on Saturday and we’re real excited. Preseason is over, which is the best part. We’re just ready to get on the court and start practicing. With a different coaching staff (Associate Head Coach Cori Close joined the staff in the offseason), a different scheme and a different system, Saturday’s going to be a lot of learning, but we’re ready to get things rolling and have fun.”
Freshman Christie Lautsch, who is one of two newcomers on this year’s team, said:
“I am very excited about the first day of practice even though I don’t know what to expect because it’s my first year. We’re starting over and we’re doing a new offense. I’m just excited to get things going, to learn the system and I’m just ready to put everything together and get out there and play. Preaseason has gone really well. We’ve really progressed since we started seven weeks ago. We’ve been running in the morning at 6:30 and then doing some individual workouts and we all worked on what we needed to, to make ourselves better. I think everybody is really excited!”
