Women’s Basketball Tabbed 18th in AP Poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State Women’s Basketball team rounded out its official preseason rankings on Thursday morning when it was announced that they were ranked 18th in the preseason Associated Press poll.

The Seminoles are also ranked 14th in the preseason USA TODAY coaches’ poll. In the AP poll, FSU has been ranked in the Top 25 for the last 49 weeks of the season. The last time they were outside the Top 25 was on Jan. 5, 2015.

Florida State is one of four ACC teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25, joining Notre Dame (6), Louisville (9) and Duke (12). Virginia, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Georgia Tech and Syracuse are all receiving votes.

In addition to the three ranked ACC opponents, the Seminoles will also face second-ranked Texas on the road in Austin. The matchup will occur on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 12:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

Leading the Seminoles this season is two-time All-American and 2017 ACC Player of the Year Shakayla Thomas. The Sylacauga, Ala., native is one of just four Seminoles who has 600+ made field goals in a career, showing an even 600 as she enters her senior year. Thomas is currently 12th in program history with a 51.9 career field goal percentage (600-of-156).

Florida State hosts its lone exhibition of the season on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. against Columbus State at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The exhibition is part of Fan Day, with free admission to the game and a post-game team autograph session in the box office lobby of the facility.
