COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Florida State women’s golf team finished in 15th at the Lady Gamecock Classic this weekend in Columbia, SC. The Lady Seminoles finished with a two-day total of 650, one stroke behind the University of Alabama. The final round of the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions.
Senior Amy Bond led all FSU golfers with a two-round total of 154. Bond recorded back-to-back rounds of 77 to finish tied for 19th with three other golfers. Sophomore Louise Wright rebounded from an opening round 86 to shoot a 76 in the second round and finish tied for 49th at 162. Erika Iding and Amy Spooner finished the event tied for 65th at 168. Sarah Capie rounded out the scoring for the Lady Seminoles, finishing alone in 74th at 171.
Top-ranked Duke University captured the tournament title by 15 strokes over the University of South Carolina. Furman University finished in third place, 14 strokes behind the Gamecocks.
Jenny Chuasiriporn of Duke ran away with the individual title, beating Marcy Newton of North Carolina by 10 strokes. Chuasiriporn set a tournament record with a 66 in the first round on Friday. Emma Lofgren of South Carolina finished in third place, one stroke behind Newton.
