Women’s Golf In 5th Place After First Round Of ACC Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. – Duke freshman Virada Nirapathpongporn shot a
career-low tying three-under par 69 and the No. 1-ranked Blue Devils are
in first place in the team standings after the first round of the 13th
annual Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Golf championship at the Disney
Palm Course. Nirapathpongporn is in first while teammates Candy
Hannemann is in second and Leigh Anne Hardin is in third in the
individual standings to lead Duke.

Behind Duke in the team standings are North Carolina and Wake
Forest (tied for second), Maryland, Florida State and NC State. Duke is
bidding to win its ACC record sixth-consecutive women’s golf
championship.


Nirapathpongporn shot 35 on the first nine and closed the day with a 34
on the back nine. She parred eight holes and birdied seven others,
including four of the final six holes of the afternoon. Hannemann,
meanwhile, shot 73 to mark the 11th time in 24 rounds this spring that
she has shot 73 or below.

Florida State’s Kristin Tamulis shot a one-over par 73 and
stands in third place in the individual standings after round one.
