TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) –
The Florida State women’s golf team, which has made seven consecutive NCAA appearances, begins its 2012 fall season as it participates in the Fourth Annual GolfWeek Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo. The 54-hole tournament matches teams from 18 different conferences across the country in three days of golf in one of the most powerful tournaments of the fall season. Florida State begins the 2012-13 fall and spring seasons ranked No. 29 by GolfWeek and is the fourth highest ranked team in the ACC behind only North Carolina (6), Duke (8), Virginia (21) and NC State (23) with Wake Forest (41) also ranked in the top 50.

No. 29 Florida State (representing the ACC) is joined by No. 1 UCLA (Pac-12), No. 25 Oklahoma (Big 12), No. 26 Pepperdine (West Coast Conference), No. 31 UC Davis (Big West), No. 37 Tulsa (Conference USA), No. 38 Ole Miss (SEC), No. 44 Denver (Sun Belt), No. 48 San Diego State (Mountain West), Campbell (Big South), East Tennessee State (Atlantic Sun), Furman (Southern Conference), Georgia State (Colonial), Missouri State (Missouri Valley), Nebraska (Big 10), San Jose State (Western Athletic Conference), Texas San Antonio (Southland) and USF (Big East) in the Fourth Annual GolfWeek Challenge. Oklahoma won the team championship and the Sooners’ Chirapat Jao-Javanil won the individual championship in last year’s event. The tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,236-yard Tom Fazio course at the Red Sky Golf Club.
NEGRON SET TO BEGIN SENIOR SEASON
Senior Jessica Negron, who earned All-ACC honors in 2011, will play in her 33rd career event at the season-opening GolfWeek Challenge. She has played in at least nine events in each of the first three seasons of her career and has earned six top 10 individual finishes. Negron (Ocala, Fla.) earned two top 10 finishes during the spring of 2012– tied for fifth place finish at the Bryan National Collegiate and a tied for seventh place finish at the 2012 ACC Championship.
RAMSAY RETURNS TO SEMINOLE LINE-UP
Mary Beth Ramsay, one of three seniors on Florida State’s roster, will play as a member of the Seminoles’ line-up in the season opening GolfWeek Challenge. It will mark Ramsay’s ninth career event and her first since playing in two events during the spring of 2011. Ramsay (Orlando, Fla.) finished in a tie for 19th place in the individual standings at the spring 2011 Kinderlou Forest Challenge to earn the best finish of her career. She tied her career best for a single round with a 73 in the first round of the Kinderlou Challenge.
SOPHOMORES CASTELAIN AND KUHLO TO PLAY IN GOLFWEEK CHALLENGE
Two of the Seminoles’ three sophomores – Laure Castelain (Bordeaux, France) and Carlton Kuhlo (Tallahassee, Fla.) will both play in the season opening GolfWeek Challenge. Castelain (nine events) and Kuhlo (four) combined to play in 13 events and helped lead the Seminoles to their school record seventh consecutive NCAA appearance in 2012. Castelain earned two top-10 finishes as a freshman while Kuhlo played her best golf at the Mo Morial Tournament at Texas A&M University in the fall of 2011.
FRESHMAN HULLERT TO MAKE FIRST APPEARANCE IN GOLFWEEK CHALLENGE
Freshman Olivia Hullert (Baerum, Norway) will make her first career appearance for the Seminoles in the 2012 GolfWeek Challenge as she earned her way into the line-up in her first career event. Hullert, who is one of three international players on the Seminoles’ roster, is the only newcomer to the team this fall. She is a member of the Norwegian Junior National Team and was ranked as the No. 1 player on the Norwegian Titleist Tour in 2011.
