TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) –
The Florida State women’s golf team will play in its third of three fall events as it travels to play the 11th Annual Landfall Tradition. The tournament is held on the Jack Nicklaus Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C., Oct. 26-28, 2012. The tournament is played over three days with 18 holes played each day. The Seminoles will look to close out the fall season on a high note against one of the toughest fields in college golf during the 2012-13 fall and spring seasons. A total of 17 teams will battle for the team title with nine teams ranked in the top 25. Following play in the Landfall tradition, the Seminoles will open their seven match spring regular season at the All-Florida Challenge in Lecanto, Florida, Jan. 28, 2012.
THE POWER PACKED LANDFALL TRADITION FIELD
Florida State is joined by No. 1 Arizona, No. 3 Duke, No. 8 Michigan State, No. 10 Northwestern, No. 13 North Carolina State, No. 14 Iowa State, No. 19 Oklahoma State, No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 22 Texas Tech, Mississippi, Ohio State, Purdue, South Carolina, Wake Forest, UNC Greensboro and the host team UNC Wilmington in the 2012 Landfall Tradition. The 17-team power field will take aim at the Par 72, 6,208-yard Jack Nicklaus designed-course at the Country Club of Landfall. It marks the seventh time UNC Wilmington has hosted the event on the Nicklaus Course. Purdue won the team championship last year and looks to become the third school in the first 11 years of the tournament to win back-to-back titles. Purdue’s Paula Reto captured the individual medalist honor in 2012 with the scores of 71, 77, and 70 for a 2 over par score of 218.
NEGRON LEADS SEMINOLES TO EIGHTH PLACE FINISH
Senior Jessica Negron finished with an even par score of 216 and in a tie for seventh place in the individual standings, and the Seminole women’s golf team finished in eighth place in the team standings as play in the 16th Annual Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship at the Holston Hills Country Club came in their last event. Both Negron and freshman Olivia Hullert carded a 1 under par score of 71 in the final round to pull the team into an eighth place finish. The finish marked the Seminoles’ second top 10 team finish of the fall season.
ANOTHER TOP 10 FINISH FOR NEGRON
Senior Jessica Negron finished in a tie for seventh place finish in the individual standings at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship to earn her seventh career top 10 finish. It was Negron’s best finish since placing in a tie for seventh at the Spring 2012 ACC Championship. She has now finished in the top eight of the individual standings in three of her last five events dating back to the beginning of the Spring 2012 season.
HULLERT CONTRIBUTES TO EARLY SEASON SUCCESS
Freshman Olivia Hullert carded her career best single round score of 1 under par 71 in the final round of the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship and finished in a tie for 27th place in the individual standings with a three-round total of 222. She carded a personal tournament high six birdies and was at or below par on 14 of her 18 holes played during the third round. Hullert was never more than 1 stroke over par and was at even par or below par during her final 14 holes of the final round.
KUHLO ENJOYING STRONG START TO SOPHOMORE SEASON
Freshman Carlton Kuhlo enters this weekend’s Landfall Tradition playing the best golf of her short career at Florida State. She will play in her third event of the fall season (she played in four during her entire freshman season), she carded her career best score of 73 in the third round of the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship (her best single round score was a 74 in 12 rounds as a freshman), she carded her best score for 36 holes of 153 at the season opening GolfWeek Challenge and her 229 tournament score at the GolfWeek Challenge is also the best of her career (the best tournament score during her freshman season was 233 at the Mo Morial Tournament).
