Women’s Golf Tournament Suspended By Rain With Seminoles Among Leaders

Sept. 21, 2003

BROOKWOOD, Ala. –
The first round of the University of Alabama/Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate – the opening tournament of the fall season for the Florida State University women’s golf team – was suspended due to heavy rain and lightning. The event was halted with three groups still on the course. The first round will be completed at 10:30 a.m. (CT) and the second round will be played with a shotgun start beginning at noon Monday.

The 12-team event, which is being played at the Capstone Club of Alabama, is scheduled for three rounds and 54 holes. Before rain suspended play, nine of the 12 teams had concluded play in the first round including Florida State. The Seminoles finished the round with a team total of 306 and are in striking distance of Alabama and Mississippi State who share the clubhouse lead with identical scores of 302.

Senior Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) led the Seminoles with a first round score of 74. It marks the ninth time during her career she has carded a single-round score of 74 or better. Quinney’s best career single-round score of 70 came during the second round of the spring 2003 Bryan National Collegiate.

Seniors Alison Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) and Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) followed Quinney with identical scores of 76. Sophomore Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) and Jaclyn Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) turned in scores of 80 during the rain-effected round. Junior Gemma Harris (Sheffield, England) is competing as an individual for the Seminoles in the tournament.
