Women’s Hoops Predicted Fourth

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State Women’s Basketball team is predicted to finish fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference, that according to the preseason polls by both the league’s head coaches and the ACC Blue Ribbon Panel.

The Seminoles, whom have averaged 13.3 conference wins over the last three years, have finished second in the conference in two of the last three seasons. In both polls, Notre Dame, Louisville and Duke were predicted to finish first, second and third, respectively.

FSU received 10 first-place votes by the Blue Ribbon Panel and three first-place votes from the head coaches.

In the ACC Blue Ribbon Panel, Miami followed FSU in fifth, then Virginia (sixth), Syracuse (seventh), NC State (eighth), Georgia Tech (ninth) and North Carolina (10th). Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, Clemson and Boston College followed 11th-15th.

In the head coaches’ poll, the predicted order of finish following FSU was Virginia (fifth), Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Pittsburgh and Boston College.

Florida State senior forward Shakayla Thomas, the reigning ACC Coaches’ Player of the Year, is a pre-season first team selection to both All-ACC Teams from the head coaches and the Blue Ribbon Panel.

Thomas looks to finish off her decorated career in style, garnering pre-season All-America praise from both Street & Smith’s as well as Lindy’s. The Sylacauga, Ala., native hopes to join Leticia Romero as the program’s two three-time All-Americans by season’s end.

According to the ACC Blue Ribbon Panel, Duke redshirt senior guard Lexie Brown was selected as the preseason ACC player of the year. In the head coaches’ poll, junior guard Asia Durr of Louisville was chosen as the ACC Player of the Year.
