September 12, 1998

TALLAHASSEE, FL — The Florida State soccer team took Virginia into a
sudden death overtime tonight before the #6 ranked Cavaliers scored in the
97th minute to give Virginia the win 4-3 at the site of the new Seminole
Soccer Complex. Florida State and Virginia are now 2-2-0.

“The girls were motivated tonight,” Coach Kerry Dziczkaniec said. “They
were excited to get to play on their own stadium field.”

The match went scoreless until the 60th minute when the Cavaliers scored
on an open goal. Virginia then scored less than a minute later, giving them
a 2-0 lead. Sophomore April Murphy struck first for the Seminoles in the
70th minute off a through ball from Alex Osorio. Senior Lauren Lynch scored
FSU’s second goal at the 85th minute off an assist from Maren Vik Edvardsen
and Osorio took a breakaway ball and socred the third goal one minute
later. Virginia then tied the match at the 89th minute sending the teams
into overtime and scored in the 97th minute to win the match 4-3.

“We were very prepared for this match,” Dziczkaniec said. “We were
focused and confident. This is the best team performance I’ve seen.”

FSU travels to Macon on Monday for a 4:00pm matchup with Mercer. The
Seminoles next home match will be Friday, September 18 at 7:00pm against
