Women’s Soccer Opens Season with Victory

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — FSU freshman Maren Vik Edvardsen set an FSU record
tonight for the most goals scored by a single player in a single game as
the Seminoles defeated Furman University 4-2. Vik Edvardsen scored all four
goals tonight at the FSU practice field as the Seminoles opened their
season.


“Our veterans did a good job tonight of setting Maren up to score
tonight,” coach Kerry Dziczkaniec said. “It was a good night to play soccer
and we now have something to build from.”


Vik Edvardsen scored her first goal in the 23rd minute off an assist from
Rachael Watkin. Sally Shelgren set the cross for Vik Edvardsen’s second
goal in the 39th minute. Furman’s Leah Versteegen scored just before
halftime on an assist from Lindsey Facciolo.


Danielle Foard came out with a strong through ball to assist Vik
Edvardsen for her third goal and Lauren Lynch added an assist in the 70th
minute for Vik Edvardsen’s fourth goal. The final goal of the match came
from Furman’s Sarah Tollick in the 75th minute with the assist from
Facciolo.


The Seminoles are 1-0 and head to the University of Georgia for the
Georgia Invitational this weekend. Their first game will be at 2:00 this
Saturday against Syracuse. The Seminoles return to home action on Friday,
September 11 with an ACC match-up against Virginia at 7pm.
