Women’s Tennis Comes Home From Hurricane Classic With Flight A Championship

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team
completed the final day of the Hurricane Classic Sunday, held on the campus
of the University of Miami. Seminole Alida Gallovits came home with the
singles flight A championship.

Junior Gallovits faced and defeated Kristen Jordan of FAU Sunday morning
in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. This gives Gallovits her second flight
championship of the fall season.

In doubles play the Seminole tandem of freshman Christina Denny and
junior Jessica Balbuena faced teammate Beth Lawrence who teamed with
Tennessee’s Brooke Cordel in flight B competition. Denny and Balbuena
defeated Lawrence and Cordel 8-4, to advance to the finals 8-4. In finals
play Denny and Balbuena faced University of Miami’s Katia Bogomolova
and Igna de Villiers, with Miami coming out on top, winning the B doubles
division 8-4.

The Seminoles will return home before heading to Regionals in Mobile,
Alabama. Regional competition will begin November 3rd, and conclude on Nov.
7th.
