CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The 20th-ranked Lady Seminoles defeated the 27th-ranked Tar Heels, 6-3, Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill. The win for Florida State improves their record to 18-5 overall and 4-2 in the ACC. North Carolina slips to 11-6 overall and 2-3 in the ACC.
The match was tied 3-3 after the singles competition. FSU’s Marina Raic and Kia Asberg, who each had their 15-match win streaks stopped on Friday at Duke, bounced back to win at No.2 and No.5 singles, respectively. FSU freshman Alida Gallovits was also a winner for the Lady Seminoles at No.1 singles.
In doubles, Raic and Jessica Balbuena won at No.2 doubles for the fifth consecutive time, after not playing together at Duke. Against Duke, Raic played with sophomore Natalie Carratala as Balbuena and senior Ali Weber defaulted at No.3. The duo of Gallovits and sophomore Nanette Duxin won at No.1 doubles to improve their overall record to 12-6, and 4-2 in the ACC.
Florida State returns home before heading off to face Georgia Tech and Clemson next weekend in their final two matches of the regular season.
