Women’s Tennis Gets Third Weekend Win

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 19th ranked Florida State Lady Seminoles
defeated the Southern Mississippi Lady Golden Eagles at the Scott Speicher
Tennis Center Sunday to bring their dual match record to 6-2. The Lady
Seminoles won 5 of 6 in singles before dropping two of the three doubles
matches, to finish the day 6-3.

Kia Asberg, Marina Raic, and Nanette Duxin all won their singles
matches, to start the Lady `Noles off to a 3-0 lead. By defeating Southern
Miss’ Patricia Kundisova, Asberg improved her overall record to 15-5. At
No.1 singles, Alida Gallovits then defeated Southern Miss’ Almut Gaude 6-3,
6-2 to bring her overall record to 15-5 and tie her with Asberg for the
team lead in the singles wins column. The final two singles matches were
split, with Southern Miss’ Shawny Price defeating FSU’s Christy Travis 6-2,
6-4, before Ali Weber’s match clinching victory over Southern Miss’ Marie
Lindberg 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.

In doubles action, the Lady Seminoles struggled, dropping two of
three for only the second time this season. FSU’s team of Gallovits and
Duxin were defeated 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, bringing their overall doubles
record to 4-3. Soon after, Kia Asberg and Marina Raic won at No.2 doubles
to put the Noles up 6-2 by defeating Southern Miss’ team of Lindberg and
Rautajoki 8-2. Asberg and Raic’s overall doubles record improves to 5-1.
The Lady Seminoles day ended with Travis and Balbuena’s hard fought loss
(8-5) to Southern Miss’ Prew and Kundisova at No. 3 doubles.

The Lady Seminoles will return to the courts on Monday, February
28, to face #22 LSU at 2:00p.m.
