TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team will head
south to the University of Miami to compete in the Hurricane Classic. The
tournament will begin October 27th and will conclude on the 29th. Looking to
lead the Seminoles will be junior Alida Gallovits and freshman Christina
Denny.

Gallovits is currently ranked 39th in the nation and has been at the top
of her game at the start of fall play. Gallovits won her flight in the
Yellow Jacket Invitational Oct. 22nd, and her current record for the year
stands at 6-1. She will be entering the tournament in singles flight A,
along with teammates Denny and Jessica Balbuena. Denny has also had strong
showings so far this fall, winning her flight in the Fall Lady Seminole
Classic, and making it to the final round at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Denny’s current record for fall tournament play is 7-1, as she hopes to
improve on those numbers this weekend. In singles flight B the Lady Noles
will be sending senior Marina raic and freshman Beth Lawrence.

Entering in doubles play in the flight A will be the tandem of Gallovits
and Nanette Duxin, along with the team of Balbuena and Denny. Gallovits and
Duxin are currently ranked 39th in the nation. The two have played doubles
together for two years now and carry with them a career record of 25-13, and
in 1999-2000 their record stood at 13-8. This will be the first time this
fall that the two have played together. In flight B doubles Lawrence will
team with senior Natalie Carratala. This will be Carratala’s first
time back in tournament play since last season, when she was only able to
compete in three matches due to injuries.

Action will begin Friday Oct. 27th at 8:00 a.m. and will continue through
to Sunday Oct. 29th.
