Tallahassee – The Florida State women’s tennis team enters the last stretch of the fall season traveling to Tampa for the USF Invite. The Noles will face Florida International and USf over the three-day event.
The Noles competed in the ITA Southern Regional Championships in Athens, GA, October 17-20. In the singles A bracket, Dumitrescu won the quarterfinals to setup a semifinal match against Florida’s Jennifer Magley. Dumitrescu lost the first set (6-1) but battled back to 5-5 serve before dropping the match 7-5. Magley went on to win one of two singles championship brackets, earning a spot at the NCAA National Indoor Championships.
At the Roberta Allison Fall Classic junior Natalie Tirapelli won Flight G, adding a singles title to the long list of wins for the Noles event hosted by the University of Alabama.
FSU won two doubles championships in Tuscaloosa, one behind newcomer Roxanne Clarke and Lindsey Deason (playing unattached) while the other came at the hands of senior transfer Nicole Cercone and sophomore Alina Mihaelescu. On the first day of the historical event, the Noles won seven of eight doubles matches and swept the singles matches.
Florida State will face the Golden Panthers at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Noles will face Bulls at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.
