Jacksonville, Fla. (Tallahassee, Fla.) – Coming off a neutral-site split between No. 29 Mississippi State and No. 67 Portland last weekend, the 36th-ranked Seminole women’s tennis team is back on the road Saturday in a double-header against South Carolina State and North Florida in Jacksonville.The match against South Carolina State will begin at 9:00 a.m., while the North Florida match will be played at 4:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the UNF Tennis Complex.
Florida State (3-1) is led by senior Daneika Borthwick and sophomore Gabriella Castaneda at the top of the lineup. Both players are 2-1 on the season, with Castaneda clinching Saturday’s match against Portland at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Durham, N.C. Borthwick also pairs with fellow senior Yukako Noi to form the 41st-ranked doubles pair in the country and the pair are 3-0 on the year.
Saturday’s matches will be the first of the season for North Florida. The Seminoles are 8-1 all-time against the Osprey’s, most recently shutting out UNF 4-0 in 2014.
South Carolina State lost its season opener Tuesday, 5-2 at Georgia Southern, and enter the match against FSU 0-1 on the year. The Bulldogs and Seminoles have never played.
