TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team will host the Miami Hurricanes Friday, March 1st and the Crimson of Harvard University Sunday, March 3rd at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Seminoles will be returning home after a four-match road stint.
Two Seminoles enter the weekend ranked nationally in singles. Sophomore Anca Dumitrescu was ranked no. 42 in the latest rankings and boasts an 8-1 record on the season. Sophomore Christina Denny is tied for 138th in the rankings. Also ranked 41st in doubles is the tandem of Dumitrescu and senior Alida Gallovits.
The Hurricanes enter the match-up ranked 30th nationally with a record of 6-2. The Hurricanes feature three ranked players: no. 63 Mari Toro, no. 83 Marcy Hora and no. 118 Ewelina Skaza. Friday’s match will be the thirteenth meeting between the two teams. The Seminoles have won two of those contests, their last win coming in 2000, when the Seminoles took the match 5-1.
The Harvard Crimson enters the match-up ranked right behind the Seminoles at no. 42 in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings. The Crimson has a record of 2-3 on the season. The Seminoles’ only meeting with the Crimson was in 1982. The Seminoles won that contest, 8-1. The Crimson features two ranked players on this season’s squad. Freshman Courtney Bergman is ranked 21st, while teammate, freshman Ashley Hyotte is ranked 138th in the latest rankings.
After the home stand, the Seminoles will host the no. 75 Michigan State Spartans on Thursday, March 7th at 2 p.m.
