Tallahassee, Fla. – No. 60 Florida State women’s tennis will host a pair of Top 40 teams this weekend in No. 19 Georgia Tech (3/18, 4:00 pm) and No. 32 Virginia Tech (3/20, 12:00 pm) at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Seminoles (8-6, 0-4 ACC) are playing their fifth and sixth ranked opponents to open the conference schedule.
Florida State is led by a pair of seniors, No. 72 Daneika Borthwick and Yukako Noi. The pair have been stalwarts at the top of the lineup all season and paired together in doubles for a 14-5 overall record and 6-2 in the spring.
Friday’s match against the Yellow Jackets (9-5, 4-1 ACC) is a rematch of last season’s ACC Tournament semifinal, a 4-3 win for Tech in Cary, N.C. Florida State won the regular season matchup by the same score last year in Atlanta. The Jackets are led by a trio of ranked players, led by No. 36 Johnnise Renaud. Tech’s Paige Hourigan and Kendal Woodard are ranked No. 21 in doubles. Georgia Tech has won three consecutive matches, including two last weekend against No. 30 Syracuse and No. 22 Wake Forest.
Friday’s match will also stream live on ESPN3 with play-by-play by Ariya Massoudi and analysis by Mark Bey.
On Sunday, the Seminoles will host Virginia Tech (10-4, 3-2 ACC) at 12:00 pm. Florida State leads the all-time series, 16-2, but the Hokies took last year’s matchup in Blacksburg, 4-2. The Hokies tout a pair of ranked singles players, No. 58 Francesca Fusinato and No. 117 Caroline Daxhelet. Virginia Tech is coming off a 5-2 win over No. 6 Duke on Sunday.
