Women’s Tennis Prepares For LSU

TALLAHASSEE, FlA. – The 19th-ranked Florida State Lady Seminoles
(6-2) have the weekend to prepare for their match with 24th-ranked LSU
(7-2) on Monday. The Lady Tigers will be FSU’s ninth opponent of the
season and the Lady Seminoles will be looking to extend their four-match
winning streak to five. The match is scheduled to begin Monday at 2:00
p.m. over at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

The 19th-ranked Lady Seminoles are led by two seniors, Ali Weber
and Kia Asberg. Weber is 10-10 on the year while Asberg is currently on a
five-match winning streak. Asberg enters Monday’s match with a dual match
record of 6-2 and 15-5 overall. Last year, Asberg was second on the team
in wins with 30, which was also the second most in school history behind
teammate Marina Raic’s 31 victories in 1998-99.

Sophomore Alida Gallovits is also 15-5 on the year and 6-2 in dual
match play. Gallovits is playing No. 1 singles and doubles for FSU.
Gallovits’ partner in doubles is junior Nanette Duxin. Duxin is also 6-2
in dual match play and holds down the No. 2 singles spot for the Lady
Seminoles where she is 6-1 on the season.

Junior Christy Travis has stepped in as of late to give the Lady
Seminoles a boost. Over the past weekend, Travis split matches at No. 6
singles on Friday and Sunday. Friday, Travis defeated Jacksonville’s
Sharon Schmeiser in straight sets. Travis’ record stands at 6-5 on the

Louisiana State brings a veteran group of tennis players to
Tallahassee. The Tigers are led by head coach Tony Minnis who is in his
ninth season. Minnis enters Monday’s match with a career record of 126-85.
LSU has two ranked players, Bruna Colosio (#12) and Ana Paula Mores (#70).
Colosio plays No. 1 singles for the Lady Tigers and is 6-1 on the season.
Mores is riding a 10-match winning streak and she is 7-0 at No. 2 singles
including a win Saturday against Florida’s Stephanie Hazlett. LSU’s two
losses this season came to Mississippi State at home by a score of 6-3 and
to No. 2 Florida on the road, 7-2. This weekend’s matches for LSU at
Florida and at Florida State are the first road matches of the season for
the Lady Tigers.
