“The bottom line is, the new season starts this week,” Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “The regular season is behind us, and it’s a brand new season that’s upon us. I think from where we started in January to now, we are exactly in the spot we need to be we’ve come together unbelievably well.” Having just played a close match that came down to a third set on the final court, both teams know how important that each court can be going into this ACC Championship rematch.
Last time out, senior Daniela Schippers clinched a 4-3 victory at Virginia Tech on Sunday, taking control of the final court in the third set to seal the Seminole win, the second time she has clinched a win this season.
“I love playing for a team, and adding that pressure gives me some really good energy on the court,” Schippers said. “Then I am able to play some of my best tennis.”
Noles in the Polls
After each splitting the weekend in ACC play, both teams rose one spot in the ITA rankings as Florida State rose to No. 41 and Virginia to No. 42 as each squad battles for postseason positioning.
Sophomore Julia Mikulski maintains her streak of six consecutive weeks in the ITA singles rankings, this time checking in at No. 113 in the nation.
