TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team jumped thirteen spots in the latest ITA Team Rankings, which was released today. The Seminoles are ranked 20th in the country, after previously being ranked #35.
Florida State gives the ACC three schools in the top 20. Besides FSU, Duke is ranked #2, and Friday’s opponent, Wake Forest, is ranked #17. The Seminoles are 15-3 this season with their only three losses coming against Florida(#1), Vanderbilt(#8), and Miami(#25). The losses to Vanderbilt and Miami came by only one point, 5-4.
FSU is riding a seven match win streak, and takes on Kansas(#32) on Wednesday at 2:30pm in Tallahassee. The Seminoles are a young team that might be just starting to realize their potential. There is not one senior among the starting six. Their starting lineup consists of two juniors, one sophomore, and three freshmen. All six starters have over ten wins this dual match season. Leading the way, are junior Kia Asberg(17-1) and freshman Marina Raic(16-2). Those two Seminoles have 12 match win streaks on the line against Kansas Wednesday.
Freshman Alida Gallovits jumped into the rankings for the first time this season. She is the only Seminole ranked, at #93. Gallovits plays No.1 singles and doubles for Florida State. In singles, Gallovits is 11-7, and in doubles, with sophomore Nanette Duxin, they are 10-3.
