Women’s Tennis Team Falls To Vanderbilt, 8-1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Lady Seminoles suffered their first
loss of the season Friday against the 16th-ranked Commodores. Florida
State’s record falls to 1-1 on the season. On Saturday, the Lady Seminoles
will try to revenge a 1999 NCAA Tournament loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Lady Seminoles only point came at No. 2 singles were junior Nanette
Duxin defeated Vanderbilt’s Jenny Miller in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
Sophomore Alida Gallovits took her match with Vanderbilt’s Julie Ditty to
three sets before losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Gallovits, ranked 32nd in the
nation, had defeated Ditty, ranked 8th in the country, back in October at the
Lady Seminole Classic. Gallovits was the only Lady Seminole to lose in three
sets.

The Lady Seminoles will return to Tallahassee after Saturday’s match with
Iowa for three days of practice before heading to Gainesville, Fla. to face
the Florida Gators.
