Women’s Tennis Team Pulls 5-4 Victory Over Iowa

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The 19th-ranked Florida State women’s tennis
team defeated 36th-ranked Iowa on Saturday, 5-4. The win improves the Lady
Seminoles record to 2-1 and avenges a loss to the Hawkeyes in last year’s
NCAA Tournament.

The Lady Seminoles split the singles portion of the match with Iowa
and pulled out the victory by winning two of three doubles points. The
deciding match came down to No. 3 doubles were FSU’s duo of Kia Asberg and
Marina Raic defeated Iowa’s Stephie Hoch and Erica Johnson in an intense
9-8(5) match. The doubles tandem of Alida Gallovits and Nanette Duxin won
at No. 2 doubles, 8-4 to set up the match clinching victory by Asberg and

Gallovits, Raic and Nanette Duxin all won their singles matches for
FSU. Gallovits, the country’s 32nd-ranked player, defeated Iowa’s Shera
Weigler at No. 1 singles and Duxin beat Iowa’s Toni Neykova at No. 2 in
three sets. Raic also needed three sets to defeat Iowa’s Hoch. FSU’s Ali
Weber also went the distance against Iowa’s Jennifer Sinclair before losing
6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Florida State will be on the road for their next two matches.
First, the Lady Seminoles will travel to Gainesville on Wednesday to take
on the Florida Gators. Then, on Saturday, FSU will face the Auburn Tigers
in Auburn, Ala.
