HONOLULU, Hawai’i. – The Florida State women’s tennis team (1-0) finished up the Rainbow Wahine Invitational on Sunday after spending a week in Hawai’i. The Seminoles went 2-2 in doubles and 5-2 in singles.
“It has been a pretty amazing trip for our team,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “We have played a ton of tennis and have a bunch of matches under our belt after the break. I am really liking what I am seeing from this team. There is very good chemistry and solid culture built into this team that is going to be a big difference maker for us this season. I am loving the way we are competing in all of our matches. It is like we have found another level, but I know we have many more levels to get to this season.”
The duos of sophomore Andrea Garcia and junior Julia Mikulski, along with sophomore Carla Touly and freshman Petra Hule, earned the two Seminole doubles wins. Garcia and Mikulski defeated Whitney Turley and Leah Heimuli of Utah 6-3, while Touly and Hule took down Klara Pribylova and Nikola Dolakova of Hawai’i 6-0.
In singles, Mikulski, Rahmanparast, Garcia, Touly and freshman Lucie Prochazkova all came out on top.
Mikulski breezed through her opponent, Jasmine Rich of Utah, 6-1, 6-2. Rahmanparast took down her opponent pretty handily as well, as she defeated Victoria Robertson of Utah 6-2, 6-3. Touly improved her record to 3-0 on the year as she conquered Roxanne Resma of Hawai’i in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Garcia got off to an early lead, winning set one 6-3. She was not as fortunate in set two as she fell to Alzbeta Houbova of Hawai’i 6-1. Garcia was able to regain her composure and defeat Houbova 11-9 in a tough third set battle. Prochazkova earned her first win of the fall by overpowering Taylor Calton of Utah, 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.
“We are off to a fantastic start and we have our focus very narrowly set on a match with Illinois next week,” said Hyde. “I am proud with how we competed all weekend and am really excited to get back to Tallahassee and get ready for what is ahead the next two weekends.”
The Noles head to Champaign, Ill. next week to take on the Fighting Illini on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 10:30 a.m. ET
