Women’s Volleyball Team Ends Unbeaten Streak With Loss To Ball State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State women’s volleyball seven-game win streak came to an end today, as the Noles dropped a four-game match to the host Ball State Cardinals in the Championship game of the Ball State Tournament. The Noles entered the tourney undefeated at 5-0, and took the first two matches of the tourney to improve to 7-0 on the season. FSU wn the second game of the four-game match, 15-13, but couldn’t hold on for the victory. FSU remains undefeated in three- and five-game matches.


The Noles started things off with a 15-8 loss to the Cardinals, before battling back for the second-game win. With things all even, the Noles took game three to the wire, before BSU snatched a 15-11 win. The Cardinals wrapped up the conference crown with a Game Four win, 15-7. The Cardinals jump to 5-2 on the season, while FSU drops their first game to collect a 7-1 record heading into this weeks match-up with Jacksonville.


FSU was led again Alex Sevillano at the net. Sevillano had a team leading 21 kills, with a .279 hitting percentage. She added 12 digs for the double-double. Norisha Campbell (17), Jennifer Werrick (18) and Kristin Frye (18) all hit double digits in kills, with Campbell leading the group with a .289 hitting percentage. Jennifer Anderson continued to excel at the setter slpot, coming through with 76 assists, as well as eight digs. FSU finished the match with a team-hitting percentage of .245. The Noles peaked in Game Three, hitting .302, despite losing the game by four points.


FSU will be back in action again in the friendly confines of Tully Gymnasium when they take on Jacksonville in a Wednesday night match. The Lady Noles will look to extend their home winning streak to 6-0, and their undefeated record against Jacksonville to 25-0.
