Wright Leads Florida State Women’s Golf Team Into Third At Ryder/Florida Championships

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. –
Florida State University senior Louise Wright is tied for third in the individual standings and the Seminoles’ women’s golf team is in a tie for third place in the team standings at the Ryder/Florida women’s collegiate golf championships at Don Shula’s Golf Resort. The first 18 holes of the 54 hole tournament was played Friday.


Wright (Ipswich, England) finished the first round with a one-over par score of 73. She shot 37 on the front nine and came back with a 36 on the back nine. It marks the second time in her last three rounds this spring that she has shot 73 or below. Wright begins day two of the event on Saturday only one stroke behind the current co-leaders, Michelle Simpson of Florida International and Jennifer Beames of Rollins College. Simpson and Beames carded identical scores of even-par 72.


Sophomore Kristin Tamulis finished the first round in a tie for 19th place and is only five strokes behind the leaders. She shot a 77 in round one. Tamulis is tied with eight players including fellow Seminoles Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) and Alison Curdt (Ellisville, Mo.). Junior Kelley Henderson (Marietta, Ga.) shot a 10-over par 82 and is tied for 51st place.


Florida State achieved a 16-over par 304 score in Friday’s first round. The team score is tied for its second best gross score during the spring season. The Seminoles are tied with Rollins College and are one stoke behind Miami and three strokes behind the current team leader, Florida.


Play continues Saturday morning with a 7:30 start. The Seminoles finished in a tied for fourth in this event last year with Wright taking home a seventh place finish in the individual standings.
