April 6, 2001

Brown Summit, N.C. –
Senior Louise Wright shot a six-over par 78 and the Florida State women’s golf team is in a tie for 14th place after the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Park Champions Golf Course. Linda Wessberg of Oklahoma State shot a three-under par 69 and is the current individual leader while the nation’s No. 1 ranked team, Duke, shot a one-over par 289 team score and is in first place in the team standings.

Wright (Ipswich, England) carded a 78 and finished the round in a tie for 34th-place in the individual standings. After a 41 on the front nine, she came home with a 37 to lead the Seminoles. Wright, who finished in second place in the individual standings at last weeks Ryder/Florida Collegiate Championship, is looking for her third consecutive top-25 individual finish this spring.

Sophomore Kristin Tamulis (Naples, Fla.), who entered the tournament with the second-lowest average score among the Seminoles this spring, (74.66) shot a seven-over par 79. It marked the sixth consecutive round she had shot 79 or below. Freshman Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.), who shot a pair of 77’s at last week’s Ryder/Florida Collegiate Championship, finished the first round with a 10-over par 82.

The second round of the tournament, a traditional start, begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The third and final round, a shotgun start, begins at the same time on Sunday.
