Wright Tied For 9th In NCAA Fall Preview

HOWIE-IN-HILLS, Fla. – Florida State senior Louise Wright
(Ipswich, England) shot a two-over par 74 and is tied for ninth in the
individual standings while the Seminole women’s golf team is tied for 11th
after the first round of the NCAA Fall Preview at the El Campeon Golf
Course. The Seminoles’ 310 team score is their best of the season and
marks the fourth time in four rounds that the team has shot 313 or better.
Duke University leads the tournament with a 296 team score while No.
1-ranked and defending national champion Arizona is in second place with a
298 team score.

Florida State is one of only three teams not currently ranked in
the nation’s top 25 to have finished the first round in 11th place or
better. The Seminoles are currently placed ahead of 16th-ranked New Mexico
State (tied 13th), No. 9 Georgia (tied 13th), No. 25 Ohio State (15th), No.
22 Florida (16) and No. 22 Oregon.

Wright shot a 37 on the front and back nines during Friday’s first
round. It marked the third consecutive round and third time in four rounds
this fall that she has shot 76 or below. She is averaging 75.5 strokes per
round in four rounds. Wright is followed by sophomore Beth McCumber
(Orange Park, Fla.) who totaled a five-over par 77 and freshman Kristin
Tamulis (Naples, Fla.) who shot a seven-over par 79.

Saturday’s second round begins at 8:00 a.m. The NCAA Fall Preview
tournament is being played on the same course that will host the 2001 NCAA
women’s championship tournament.
