Wyckoff Helps Lead The Jazz All-Stars To Victory

April 2, 2001

Florida State’s Brooke Wyckoff not only participated in the Women’s Basketball Association (WBCA) All-Star Challenge as a part of the Final Four activities this past weekend in St. Louis, but she was chosen as a starter. Wyckoff, Tennessee’s Semeka Randall, Georgia’s Coco Miller, Rutgers’ Tammy Sutton-Brown and Washington University’s Tasha Rodgers rounded out the starting five for the Jazz, who defeated the Blues, 74-66, on Saturday.

Wyckoff played 22 minutes and was among the leaders on the team with seven rebounds and four assists. The Lady Vols’ Randall led all scorers with 17 points.

“It was really fun playing with the top players in the nation,” Wyckoff said. “These are players who I hope to be playing with professionally in the future.”

Nineteen of the nation’s top collegiate women’s basketball players participated in the Challenge and each played around the same number of minutes. Wyckoff was one of just three ACC players to participate. Duke’s Georgia Schweitzer played with Wyckoff on the Jazz team while North Carolina’s LaQuanda Barksdale led the Blues with 12 points. The teams conducted a two-hour practice on Friday and then had a shoot-around on Saturday morning.

Nearly 3,000 fans attended the contest.
