TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- For the first time in her career, redshirt junior Katrina Young was recognized as the ACC Diver of the Week, which was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Young earns the honor after her performance at the Auburn Invite, where she won the 1-meter event with a score of 309.80 against top-notch competition from Auburn and Georgia. She added a fifth place finish on 3-meter (327.65) before taking third in her specialty – the platform (250.25).
“I’ve really been improving my springboard events,” Young said. “Platform is my specialty, but I’m happy with the way I’ve been performing with springboard too. As a team, we’ve all been working pretty hard in practice and we all learned a lot from this meet and hopefully we can use those lessons to get us ready for the end of the season.”
“She’s really come on in springboard,” head diving coach Patrick Jeffrey said. “Her confidence from the summer has rolled over into everything that she’s doing and it’s really showing. I’m anxious to see how Katrina and the rest of our team will perform down the stretch of our season.”
Young captured the seventh weekly honor for the Seminoles this season.
The divers will compete at the 2013 Winter Diving Nationals in Austin, Texas from Dec. 17-22. For more information on FSU swimming and diving, check back to Facebook and Twitter.
