NAPLES, Fla. – Senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and former Seminole All-American Mat Cloer teamed up to compete in the main doubles draw at the ITG Naples Challenger from November 20-26. They won their first two matched before falling in the semifinals.
“They have played together two years ago and had a great record in college so they were familiar playing together,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “I think for Ytai it is just great experience to be able to play in a $50,000 tournament and I think that first win in particular was really solid win for him. They were playing people in the tournament that were top 100 in the world so I am real excited for them to have that opportunity, to win two rounds, get to the semifinals and pick up 27 points. It was a great accomplishment.”
In their opening round match they defeated Llia Bozoljav and Dusan Vemic 6-3, 4-6, (10-5). They then won their quarterfinals match defeating Erik Corace and Brandon Corace 6-4, 6-0. In the semifinals they lost to Goran Dragicvic and Mirho Pehar 6-0, 6-3.
The spring men’s tennis season for Florida State begins January 20 when the Seminoles take on Florida A&M and Louisiana Layfette at home.
