TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The most recent addition to the Florida State women’s tennis team is junior transfer Yukako Noi. The Japanese native played the last two seasons at VCU where she was an Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team selection in both 2013 and 2014.
“Yukako brings a very solid work ethic to our program, which is a wonderful complement to what we already demand,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “She is very upbeat, outgoing and full of laughter and will bring a wealth of experience as an upperclassman to an already upperclassmen-heavy roster. We are excited for her addition and with her arrival this team is eight deep and eight strong – more than any team we’ve ever had in the history of Florida State tennis.”
As a Ram, Noi amassed a 25-16 record in singles and a combined record of 12-12 in doubles in her two seasons at VCU. She competed primarily at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. She was a top-16 seed in the 2013 ITA Atlantic Regional in both singles (No. 13) and in doubles with partner Cindy Chala (No. 11).
Noi was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in both 2013 and 2014 while at VCU and was named to the All-Academic Team in 2014. She joins an FSU team that equally pursues excellence in the classroom and on the court as the Florida State women’s tennis squad has won the Golden Torch in 16 of the last 17 years, given to the FSU athletic team with the highest overall GPA.
Noi competed in her first tournament since becoming a Seminole at the US Open National Playoff Qualifiers in Tallahassee on June 19-22. The rising junior was defeated by her new teammate, Gabby Castaneda, dropping a very close match by a score of 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-4, in the Round of 16.
