LONG GROVE, Ill. –
After advancing to the championship round of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, Florida State University junior Alison Zimmer was defeated in the first round of match play by Erica Blasberg. Balsberg led Zimmer by three holes with two to play and was declared the winner of the match after the players completed play on the 16th hole.

Match play scores are calculated on a hole-by-hole basis. The player who holes her ball in fewer strokes wins an individual hole. A match is won when one player is ahead by a greater number of holes then number of holes remaining to be played.

The Women’s Amateur Public Links, one of 13 national championships conducted by the United States Golf Association, winds up with an 18-hole final on Sunday.
