🏊‍♀️Hulkko, Kucheran Selected for NCAA Championships in Austin

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State women’s swimmers Nina Kucheran and Ida Hulkko will represent the Seminoles at the 2019 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships from March 20-23 in Austin, Texas at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Kucheran qualified to swim the 100 breast and 200 breast, while Hulkko earned her spot in the 100 breast.

“These two have improved so much this year,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “It has been very exciting to watch. They are very different kinds of athletes, but both work extremely hard and they deserve their success.”

Hulkko will enter the meet seeded ninth in the 100 breast, after she swam a time of 58.94 at the ACC Championships, where she won the bronze medal.

Kucheran will be ranked 22nd in the 100 breast and 23rd in the 200 breast. The Sudbury, Ontario, native won silver in the 200 breast in school record timing at 2:08.78 at ACCs after finishing fifth in the 100 breast.

Kucheran can also exercise the option to compete in the 200 IM (1:59.12), while the Mikkeli, Finland native can swim the 200 breast (2:11.32) as both swims qualify as NCAA ‘B’ standards.

Florida State will also be represented in the 200 and 400 medley relays at the meet.

The 200 medley relay took home the bronze medal at the ACC Championships with a new school record of 1:36.28, automatically qualifying for NCAAs.  The 400 medley relay will also compete after earning the provisional standard at 3:34.14.

Freshmen Maddie McDonald and Kertu Alnek along with sophomore Emma Terebo and senior Leila Johnston will make the trip as relay swimmers.

The divers will have their chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the Zone B qualifier, which will be held from March 11-13 at Auburn. The top nine divers on 1-meter, eight on 3-meter and six on platform will earn a bid to NCAAs.
