TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State track & field student-athletes Ciaran O’Lionaird and Kim Williams have been named Capital One Academic All-District selections, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
Both are now eligible to be named Academic All-Americans once voting begins on Tuesday, June 7.
“Kim and Ciaran have been two of the best athletes in the country in their events all year, so it’s really exciting to know that they were also two of the top student-athletes as well,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “At the end of the year I’m hoping that we can add their name to our prestigious list of track and field Academic All-Americans.”
Being two of the best in their respective areas of expertise means that both O’Lionaird and Williams have qualified for the NCAA Championships starting June 8 in Des Moines, Iowa.
And the similarities don’t stop there.
Both will represent FSU in two different events; O’Lionaird in the men’s 5000m and 10000m runs and Williams in the women’s long jump and triple jump. Both also won two ACC Championships this season with O’Lionaird claiming the 1500m and 10000m titles and Williams being crowned in the long jump and triple jump.
As students, O’Lionaird boasts a 3.68 GPA while Williams possesses a 3.50.
In April, Williams was named the ACC’s Scholar Athlete of the Year following the indoor season.
