2000 Seminole Fall Classic Set To Get Underway Friday

The Florida State men’s tennis team opens its home season Friday, Oct. 13th at 8:00 a.m., as hosts of the annual Seminole Fall Classic. The Classic consists of 14 different teams from the southeast, and should provide some great competition to start the season. The Seminoles are coming off of a 14-10 season in which they finished the year ranked 49th in the country.

Florida State freshman Romian Jurd enters the tournament seeded seventh in the A singles draw. Jurd will face Claran Moore of Bethune Cookman Friday at 9:00 a.m. Also competing in the singles A draw are freshman Jarrod Owen and Alex Herrera, sophomore Rodrigo Laub and junior Jeff Scarella. Playing in the B singles for the Seminoles will be senior Chad Mooney, junior Noah Schnell, and sophomore Joe Basset. Freshman Elliot Elias will be the lone Nole to play in the C singles draw and will receive a bye and advance to the quarterfinals.

In doubles competition, Mooney and Bassett will face Julien Coratella and Benjamin Stewart of Auburn. Mooney and Bassett are coming off of a win in the doubles competition at the Southern Collegiates two weeks ago. Also in A doubles competition will be the tandem of Schnell and Scarella, and the freshman team of Owen and Jurd. In B doubles competition, Florida State will send in Elias and Reid McCree to face Bram Tucker and Rich Davoli of Jacksonville University to compete to advance to the quarterfinals.

Sophomore Xavier Luscan is competing at the ITA Men’s All-American Championship in Atlanta at the Lincoln Tennis Center. Luscan is ranked 25th in the country and will face JP Futtero to advance to the round of 32.

The Fall Classic will start on Friday October 13th at 8:00 a.m., and will conclude Sunday evening October 15th. The Seminoles then head to North Carolina to compete in the Rolex Regional November 2nd.
