TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State softball program released its 2014 fall schedule on Monday and the Seminoles will play in several exhibition contests against other colleges as well as intrasquad games over four weekends in October and November.
“We are so excited to get back on the field and begin the new season,” said head coach Lonni Alameda. “We are looking forward to the challenge of the fall as it gives us a chance to play other teams and also an opportunity to bond as a team.”
The highlight of the 2014 fall season will be a matchup at JoAnne Graf Field against the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch league on Sat., Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m. Founded in 2009, the Pride have reached the NPF finals in all six seasons and won league championships in 2010, 2013 and 2014. Fans are encouraged to come early at 3:00 p.m. for a skills clinic and there will also be an autograph session featuring players of the Pride and the Seminoles following the game.
The 2014 ACC Champions will open the fall season in Tallahassee on October 11 with a Garnet and Gold game at 10 a.m., followed by a game against Pensacola State College at 12:00 p.m. There will also be a skills clinic at 3:00 p.m. for young players to have a chance to learn from current Florida State players.
On October 24-25, the Seminoles will play four games at JoAnne Graf Field beginning Friday with an intrasquad game at 4:00 p.m. and a game against Chipola College at 6:00 p.m.
Saturday will start off with a contest at 10:00 a.m. versus the College of Central Florida, the 2014 NJCAA National runner-up and former team of junior transfer Amy Szymanowski. The Noles will then face the University of Georgia at noon. The Bulldogs were the 2014 SEC Champions and the No. 4 overall seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
Florida State travels to Gulfport, Miss., in its lone road trip of the fall to play fellow 2014 Women’s College World Series participant Louisiana on Sun., Nov. 2. The Seminoles will take on the Ragin’ Cajuns in a doubleheader at noon.
FSU returns home for the final three games of the 2014 fall season. On Thurs., Nov. 13, Florida State will play cross-town opponent Tallahassee Community College at 6:00 p.m.
Closing out the 2014 fall season will be a game against the Puerto Rico National team at 2:00 p.m. on Sun., Nov. 16. Puerto Rico has played in several tournaments this summer, including the 2014 ISF World Championships in Haarlem, Netherlands. Prior to the game against Puerto Rico will be the annual Managers’ Garnet and Gold game at 12:00 p.m.
“The fall season allows us to play games that don’t impact our record, but that doesn’t mean that the games and the competition aren’t important,” added Alameda. “Being able to play against some of the best college and professional teams in the country will prepare us for the spring to make another run at the World Series in Oklahoma City.”
