Tallahassee, FL – Florida State athletics announced the 2021 women’s tennis schedule today. The ninth-ranked Seminoles are scheduled to face 10 teams ranked in the Oracle/ITA Division I Preseason Top 25. FSU will play 19 home matches and 14 conference contests.
The schedule features home contests against No. 7 Georgia, No. 8 NC State, No. 10 Virginia, No. 16 Wake Forest, No, 18 UCF and No. 21 Florida. The Seminoles will also go on the road to face No. 1 UNC, No. 6 Duke and No. 12 Georgia Tech.
“This team is very excited for the upcoming spring schedule and the tremendous opportunities to compete against the highest levels that college tennis offers,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “Our ACC schedule alone is already very strong, with the ACC being by far the deepest and toughest women’s tennis conference in the nation. Our out-of-conference schedule will pin us against a talented crop of opponents as well.
“We are challenging the players each year to raise the bar of the program, and the schedule we have in place will give them those opportunities to thrive. Each week of play will help prepare us for the championship time of year at the end of the spring. After the abrupt end to the 2020 season, we are now, perhaps more than ever, deeply grateful for every chance we get to perform out there on the court, and can’t wait to kick off the season.”
The Seminoles were ranked No. 2 in the nation when the 2020 season came to an abrupt halt in March of 2020 due to the global pandemic. With no matches scheduled in the fall, this season-opening tournament January 22-24 will mark the first time the team has taken the court together for matches in 10 months.
