TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State men’s tennis team will close out their regular season this weekend against ACC foes Georgia Tech and Duke. The Seminoles travel to Atlanta today to face the 46th ranked Yellow Jackets at 2:30 p.m. The Seminoles will then host the Duke Blue Devils, ranked 11th nationally, on Sunday, April 14th, which is also Senior Day for the men’s tennis team. The match will begin at 1 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets enter the match-up with a record of 12-8 overall and a 4-3 conference record. Georgia Tech feature one player ranked in the national singles rankings, Roger Anderson at 35th. Last season, the Yellow Jackets upset the Seminoles at home in a 5-2 decision. The Seminoles lead the all-time series, which dates back to 1954, 30-21.
The Seminoles will be looking to hand the Blue Devils their first conference loss of the season as they enter the match-up with a 12-9 overall record and a 6-0 record in ACC play. The Seminoles have been unable to defeat the Blue Devils since the 1996 season under then head coach David Barrons. Also, the Tribe has only won three matches in the 19 times the teams have met. Duke boasts three players ranked in the national singles rankings: No. 11 Philip King, No. 58 Michael Yani, and No. 123 Jason Zimmerman.
The Seminoles feature Xavier Luscan, ranked 38th nationally.
The Seminoles will take the week off before heading to Raleigh, North Carolina to compete in the ACC Tournament. The Tournament will be held April 18-21.
