TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – For the third consecutive year, every member of the nationally ranked Florida State Women’s Golf team has been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll. The conference released the list of academic honorees with a record number of Seminole student-athletes, including Head Coach Amy Bond’s team placing all eight members – the seventh consecutive season at least seven members of the team have been honored for their academic success by the ACC.
The eight Seminole women’s golfers on the 2018 ACC Academic Honor Roll includes four recent graduates – Lexie Flerlage (Venice, Fla./Real Estate), Kayla Jones (Milton, Ga./Marketing), Kim Metraux (Lausanne, Switzerland/Management) and Morgane Metraux (Lausanne, Switzerland/Management) – along with sophomores Amanda Doherty (Atlanta, Ga./Sport Management), Ashley Mangan (Clermont, Fla./Finance) and Sandra Salonen (Espoo, Finland/Sport Management) and freshman Kathleen Sumner (Charleston, S.C../Exploratory).
The eight members of the 2017-18 Seminole Women’s Golf team have earned a total of 22 ACC Academic Honor Roll appearances with each of them earning the honor in each of the years they were members of the team. Jones and the Metraux sisters tied the program record for ACC Academic Honor Roll appearances with four each.
Florida State finished in a tie for 12th place in the team standings at the NCAA Championship Finals – the second best national tournament finish in school history. In addition, the Seminoles tied the school record for best finish in an NCAA Regional Championship (second) and in the ACC Championship (second). Under Bond, the Seminoles appeared in the NCAA Championship Finals for the school-record third consecutive season.
“We are very proud of the incredible academic accomplishments of our team every year,” said Bond. “The academic success of each of the girls is a tribute to each of them as individuals and to the culture the past and current players have built within this program. For every member of our team to be on the ACC Academic Honor Roll for three straight years is truly amazing. I’d also like to thank Shawn Wagner, who works with our team from the Academic Support Unit for Athletics, for doing such a great job.”
Florida State’s lineup in the NCAA Championship Finals (Doherty, Jones, Kim Metraux, Morgane Metraux, Sumner) earned a combined spring semester GPA of 3.769 and had a combined career GPA of 3.797.
