TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Three Seminoles earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors Monday after leading Florida State to a 31-13 victory over NC State Saturday evening. Quarterback Alex Hornibrook, defensive back Cyrus Fagan and edge defender Amari Gainer each earned their first career weekly ACC honors.

Hornibrook threw for a career-high 316 yards on 29-of-40 passing and three touchdowns to earn ACC Quarterback of the Week. In his first start as a Seminole after three years at Wisconsin, Hornibrook had touchdowns of 9, 40 and 43 yards without committing a turnover. Over the past two weeks, Hornibrook has thrown for five touchdowns and 571 yards without a turnover.
Fagan was named the ACC Defensive Back of the Week after a career-high 10 tackles, including eight solo, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup against the Wolfpack. In his fourth start of the season, the junior from Daytona Beach recovered his second career fumble. FSU’s defense has recovered six fumbles on the season, already double its 2018 total of three.
Gainer was the ACC Rookie of the Week. The Tallahassee native made the most of his first career start, finishing with nine tackles, 2.0 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss against NC State. Gainer also forced a fumble on NC State’s final drive at the goal line to prevent a Wolfpack touchdown. Gainer accounted for both of Florida State’s sacks Saturday night.
Florida State is off this weekend and will next face No. 2 Clemson on October 12 at either 3:30 or 7:30 p.m. on ABC. Game time will be announced following the October 5 games.
