Abbes Set to Run at U20 European Cross Country Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State senior Yasmine Abbes will be representing her home country and the Seminoles at the U20 European Cross Country Championships on Dec. 13 in Dublin, Ireland. Abbes will be competing for the Netherlands in the event.

“It meant a lot to me to have qualified. After not racing for six months because of injury, I couldn’t have imagined a better comeback than this. Hard work really paid off,” Abbes said.

This will be the third time Abbes has been a part of the European Championships, as she competed in the U18 race in 2018 and the U20 race in 2019. Abbes represents the Dutch AV Club and qualified for the championship on Sunday with a time of 14.55.0 in the 4.3k in her first race back from injury. As a Seminole, Abbes was a part of the DMR team that broke the school record at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships with a time of 10:57.24. The relay team finished third at the NCAA Championships.  The Nijmegen, Netherlands, native earned All-ACC and All-America honors in the 2021 indoor season was also recognized as the ACC Freshman of the Week twice during the 2019 cross country season.

“We’re really excited about Yasmine’s race,” Head Coach Bob Braman said. “Her second-place finish qualifies her for the Dutch Junior Team. Its an athlete’s highest honor to make and represent their country’s national team.”
