TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week – Week 4

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s Marta Bakowska-Mathews was recognized for her outstanding week receiving numerous national honors in leading the fifth-ranked Seminoles to wins over St. John’s and Stetson.

Bakowska-Mathews was named NSCAA National and ACC Co-Player of the Week, while earning a spot on TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Week.

The senior midfielder finished the week with nine points on four goals and an assist in two matches. Bakowska-Mathews opened the week with a goal and an assist against the Red Storm for her second multi-point game of the season. She assisted on the first goal of the game, the eventual game-winner, and then gave the Seminoles a 4-0 lead in the second half converting a penalty kick opportunity in the 75th minute.

Bakowska-Mathews concluded the week in fine fashion recording her first career hat trick against Stetson. The native of Kent, England scored three of FSU’s first four goals in the match including two in the first 15 minutes of action and the eventual game-winner in the seventh minute. It marked the first Seminole hat trick since Tiffany McCarty recorded three at Clemson on September 22, 2011. She went on to set single-game career-highs for points (6) and goals (3) in the win over the Hatters.

Bakowska-Mathews now has three career multi-goal games including one this year. She currently leads the team with three multi-point games in 2014.

Bakowska-Mathews and the Seminoles are back in action this week wrapping up non-conference play at Connecticut on Thursday, September 18 before heading to Boston College to face the Eagles in their ACC opener on Sunday, September 21.
